Many users often connect their laptops to external monitors and use external keyboards and mice to improve productivity.
When you connect your laptop to an external screen and use an external keyboard and mouse, you might want to close the laptop lid and continue working with the help of an external monitor, external keyboard, and mouse.
With default settings, when you close the lid of your Windows 11 laptop, the laptop goes to sleep mode to save power. This behavior is acceptable when you are not using an external screen along with an external keyboard and mouse. However, if you close the laptop lid but do not want it to enter sleep mode, you need to change the laptop lid action settings.
This guide shows you how to stop a Windows 11 laptop from entering sleep mode when you close the lid of the laptop.
Prevent laptop from entering sleep mode when the lid is closed
Step 1: In the Start menu or taskbar search, type Change what closing the lid does and then press the Enter key to open the Power Options Settings window.
Step 2: Here, select Do nothing from the drop-down menus next to the When I close the lid option. Please note that you must select Do nothing from the drop-down menu below both On battery and Plugged in.
Step 3: Finally, click the Save changes button to apply the new setting. That’s it! From now on, Windows 11 will not put your laptop into sleep mode when you close the lid. Instead, your laptop will continue running even when the lid is closed.
