The Notepad app in the Windows operating system is one of the inbox apps that has been shipping with the Windows operating system for decades. Over the past decade, during Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1 and Windows 10 era, the Notepad remained unchanged, or Microsoft did not update it to include new features.
However, that seems to have changed with Windows 11. The Notepad in Windows 11 has been gaining new features for quite some time now. The Notepad supports dark mode, offers tabs, opens previously opened files by default, and automatically saves your notes. All these features are not part of the Notepad in Windows 10 and earlier versions.
In addition to these features, Notepad is now getting another set of cool features – spelling check and auto-correct. Yes, the Notepad in Windows 11 is finally getting a built-in spelling checker. This means users no longer need to copy and paste the Notepad notes into Office Word or any other software to check and correct spelling mistakes.
As of July 2024, the spelling check feature is being rolled out to all Windows 11 computers running the 23H2 version.
By default, the Notepad in Windows 11 highlights misspelled words in red. You can click on a highlighted word to see the suggestion offered by Notepad. Autocorrect, as you likely know, automatically corrects common typing mistakes.
The spelling check and autocorrect features are turned on by default and can also be configured to work with specific file types. For example, you can turn off the spelling check and autocorrect for file types associated with coding.
If you wish to disable the spelling checker in the Notepad, you can do so as well.
