Microsoft has been adding new features to Windows 11 with each major update. A recent update has added several new features to the operating system, including the built-in Notepad app.
Until now, the Notepad app could not automatically save the typed note or file. That is, closing the Notepad app without saving a file/note would result in data loss.
PC users no longer need to worry about losing notes taken in the Notepad app.
The newest version of the Notepad app in Windows 11 can automatically save your progress! That is, when you close the Notepad app, you will not be asked to save the note. It will automatically save the note or file. The next time you open the Notepad, the same (automatically saved) file or note will be opened automatically. If you need to create a new note, you can open a new tab by clicking on the plus sign.
However, remember that when you try to close a tab, you will be prompted to save the save the note. In short, we can say that Notepad automatically saves your notes until you try to close the tab! If you close the Notepad app instead, you will not be prompted to save the note.
If you have been using the new Notepad, you might want to open a new note instead of the previously opened note from the previous session when you launch the Notepad. Luckily, Notepad offers a setting where you can configure it to open a new note or new window instead of the previous session note.
Force Notepad always open a new note in Windows 11
Step 1: Open the Notepad app.
Step 2: Click on the gear/setting icon in the toolbar to open Notepad settings.
Step 3: Next, click on When Notepad starts.
Step 4: Finally, select Open a new window. That’s it! From now on, Notepad will always open a new note instead of your previous note.

Thank you. The change in functionality verged on a bug, not helpful at all.

Thanks, saves us wasting time running through settings to test response from setting especially when you get indirect response from some as what we wanted.
