Is the clock on your Windows 11 taskbar not showing AM/PM next to the time? Would you like to know why Windows 11 is not showing AM/PM next to the clock? Do you want to configure Windows 11 to display the AM/PM in the clock so that you can easily distinguish between times of day? This guide shows you how to show AM/PM in the taskbar clock.
The 12-hour clock format is commonly used across many countries and regions. As you know, while using a 12-hour clock format, AM/PM helps distinguish between the first half (midnight to noon) and the second half of a day (noon to midnight). However, a recent change to the Windows 11 clock has removed AM/PM from the taskbar clock.
So, with default settings, the clock on the Windows 11 taskbar might not show AM/PM in the taskbar. Luckily, we can add it back!
Tip: Did you know that the AM refers to Ante Meridiem and PM is the short form of Post Meridiem?

Step 2: Now, on the right side, click Show time and date in the system tray to see additional options.
Step 3: Finally, deselect the Show abbreviated time and date option to force the Windows 11 taskbar to display the full date and time, which displays AM/PM next to the time and the year next to the date..
Method 2 of 2
Make Windows 11 taskbar clock display AM/PM
If the taskbar clock does not show AM/PM even after deselecting the Show abbreviated time and date option, you need to follow the dictions in method 2 to configure the Windows 11 taskbar clock to show AM/PM.
Step 1: Open the classic Control Panel. Yes, the new Settings app still does not offer a way to customize the date and clock format!
Step 2: In the Control Panel, change the View by to Small icons (refer to the picture below). Click Region to open the Region dialog.
Step 3: Here, under the Formats tab, click the Additional settings button to open the Customize Format dialog on the screen.
Step 4: Switch to the Time tab by clicking on the same. Under the Time formats section, ensure that “tt” is added at the end of the Short time and Long time.
If not present, you can manually type “tt” at the end of the Short time and Long time, as shown in the picture below. The “tt” refers to AM or PM.
Also, ensure that AM is selected from the drop-down menu next to the AM symbol and PM is selected from the drop-down menu next to the PM symbol.
Step 5: Finally, click the Apply button to immediately add AM/PM to the Windows 11 taskbar clock. That’s it!
If the AM/PM does not show up in the taskbar clock even after this, please ensure that you have followed the directions in Method 1 and Method 2 (mentioned above) without any deviations.
