Generally, downloading device drivers for the Windows operating system is easy. You have to visit the PC manufacturer’s website and search with your PC’s model number to find all available device drivers.
In addition to the method mentioned above, one can use internet search engines such as Google, Bing, and DuckDuckGo to find device drivers quickly. That said, finding and downloading the microphone drivers is not straightforward unless you know what to download.
How do I download the microphone driver for Windows 11?
A few weeks ago, we published a guide to reinstall the microphone driver on a Windows 11 PC. A few readers who went through the article contacted us to ask how to download the microphone driver as they could not find the microphone driver on the PC manufacturer’s website.
The thing is that most manufacturers club both audio and microphone device drivers into a single package and name it as the audio driver. Because of this, manufacturers do not offer a separate download for the microphone driver, especially for Realtek audio.
For instance, Lenovo’s official website does not offer a separate microphone driver for many models, including my ThinkPad T480 and E14 models. The same might be true with other manufacturers using Realtek audio chips on their computers.
So, in short, if your PC manufacturer’s website does not explicitly offer a microphone driver, download the audio driver for your PC and then install the same. In most cases, the audio driver automatically installs the microphone driver.
Tip: On a Windows 11 PC, you may navigate to Windows 11 Settings > System > Sound page and then click the Microphone array entry to change the default microphone settings.
