Each app installed on your Windows 11 computer takes up some amount of storage space. Some apps require significantly less storage space, whereas some apps and games take gigabytes of disk space.
If you are not using some of the installed apps, uninstalling them is a good idea as you can free up a good amount of storage space, especially apps that are taking up GBs of space. But how do you figure out the storage space used by an app or program on your Windows 11 computer?
Checking the storage space used by an app is pretty easy in Windows 11. The built-in Settings app can be used to determine the storage space used by apps.
Check disk space used by apps on Windows 11 PC
This guide shows you how to check the storage space used by apps in Windows 11.
Step 1: Open the Settings app. This can be done by searching or pressing the Windows logo, and I keys on the keyboard.
Step 2: On the left side of the Settings app, click Apps. Now, on the right side, click Installed apps.
Step 3: The Installed apps page shows the full list of apps installed from the Store, built-in apps, and classic desktop programs you might have downloaded and installed from the web, such as the Firefox browser.
Step 4: Now, to view the storage space used by apps, select the Size (large to small) filter from the drop-down next to Sort by. That’s it!
The list should now show the size of installed apps next to them. Since you have selected the Size (large to small) filter, the app using the most disk space will be at the top of the list.
View the size of installed classic desktop programs in Windows 11
Using the Settings app to determine the size of apps is the best way, as it shows app sizes for inbox apps, apps installed from Microsoft Store, and classic desktop programs. That said, if you wish to use the Control Panel, you can do so, but remember that the Control Panel method only shows classic desktop programs.
Step 1: Type appwiz.cpl in the Start or taskbar search and press the Enter key to open the Programs and Features window.
Step 2: The list shows all installed classic desktop programs. The Size column shows the size of the programs.
If the Size column is absent, Change the view type to Details by clicking the down arrow next to the help icon and then selecting the Details option.
