Many computer users use virtual meeting software for remote work, webinars and training, client meetings, project management, education, and interviews.
In order to effectively use virtual meeting software, we need a working microphone device.
If your Windows 11 PC is not detecting the microphone or if the microphone is not working correctly, you might want to consider reinstalling the microphone driver.
This guide shows you how to reinstall the microphone driver in Windows 11.
NOTE: We recommend performing basic troubleshooting such as turning on or off the microphone, ensuring that the microphone is not muted, and checking if apps are allowed to access the microphone before reinstalling the microphone driver.
Reinstall microphone driver in Windows 11
Step 1: Right-click the Start/Windows logo button on the taskbar and then click Device Manager to open the same.
Step 2: In the Device Manager window, click the Audio inputs and outputs to see your microphone’s entry.
Step 3: Right-click on the microphone’s entry and then click the Uninstall device option.
Step 4: When you get the confirmation prompt, select Try to remove the software for this device option if present and then click the Uninstall button. If the option does not exist, click the Uninstall button.
Step 5: Once the microphone driver is uninstalled, reboot your PC.
Step 6: Go to Windows 11 Settings > Windows Update page. Click the Check for updates button. Windows should download and install the missing microphone driver.
Alternatively, you can download the microphone driver from your PC manufacturer’s website by typing your PC model number. Note that if you cannot find the specific microphone driver on the website, it’s likely because the microphone driver is clubbed with the audio driver. So, if your PC manufacturer does not offer a dedicated microphone driver, simply download the audio/sound driver.
Run the downloaded microphone driver’s installer and then follow the simple on-screen directions (all you need to do is click the Next and Install buttons) to install the microphone driver.
If and when asked, restart your PC once to complete installing the microphone driver.
