PC users who own an Android device know that the Android operating system has a built-in feature to display network speed on the status bar.
The ability to see the network speed in real time without opening an app is a handy feature that most users like.
Several Android users who use Windows 11 PCs would also like to get the feature in Windows 11. However, unfortunately, the Windows operating system does not offer a built-in feature to display the network speed on the taskbar.
Luckily, a free, lightweight utility is available to add the network speed monitor to the Windows 11 taskbar.
TrafficMonitor is a free utility designed to help Windows users display the network speed on the taskbar. In addition to the internet speed, it can also display other information such as CPU and RAM usage, CPU, RAM, GPU, and hard drive temperature.
Use TrafficMonitor to display network speed on Windows 11 taskbar
Complete the directions below to show network speed on the Windows 11 taskbar with the help of the free TrafficMonitor software.
Step 1: Visit this GitHub page and download the latest version of the TrafficMonitor ZIP file. We recommend downloading the full version as the lite version does not support all the features. If you are interested only in showing the network speed on the taskbar, you may download it.
Step 2: Right-click on the downloaded zip file, click Extract all, select a location to save the extracted files and then click the Extract button.
Step 3: Now, double-click the TrafficMonitor folder to see all the files.
Step 4: Finally, double-click the TrafficMonitor executable file to start showing the network speed on the taskbar.
Please note that Windows 11 might show you the following warning when you attempt to run the TrafficMonitor software. Click the More info link and then click the Run Anyway button.
When you get the User Account Control prompt, please click the Yes button, as the software requires admin rights.
Step 5: Once launched, the TrafficMonitor might start showing the download and upload speeds on the desktop. To show network speed on the taskbar instead, right-click the TrafficMonitor in the system tray area and then select the Show taskbar window option.
To hide it from the desktop, right-click the TrafficMonitor icon in the system tray area and then deselect the Show Main Window option.
Customize the network speed monitor on the taskbar
The TrafficMonitor tool offers plenty of options to personalize the network speed monitor on the taskbar.
Right-click the taskbar icon and then click Options to see all available settings and options. Switch to the Taskbar Window Settings tab to see options available to customize the network speed shown on the Windows 11 taskbar.
You can change the background color, font, font size, location of the monitor on the taskbar, and much more.
With default settings, the TrafficMonitor uses white color for the network speed information fonts. The problem with this white font is that it is not exactly visible when using the light theme. So, we recommend a color, something like red, visible both on the light and dark colored taskbar.
