Both Windows 10 and 11 offer multiple options to check the size of files and folders. Following are the five easy methods to know the size of a file or folder.

Check the size of a file or folder in Windows 10/11
Step 1: Perform a right-click on the file/folder and then click Properties.
Step 2: Clicking Properties will open the Properties dialog. Here, the Size field shows the exact size of the selected file/folder (refer to the image below).
NOTE: The Size field shows the actual size of the file or folder, whereas the Size on disk displays the total number of bytes occupied by the file or folder on your drive. There might be a small difference between the Size and Size on disk numbers.

Check the size of a file or folder using keyboard shortcuts in Windows 10/11
Step 1: Select the file or folder using the arrow keys on the keyboard.
Step 2: Once selected, simultaneously press Alt and Enter keys to open the Properties dialog, which shows the size of the selected file or folder in the Size field.

Easy way to check the size of file or folder using mouse or trackpad
Step 1: Move the mouse/trackpad pointer over the file/folder to reveal the folder tip, which shows details such as file size and creation date.

Know the size of a file in Windows 10/11 File Explorer
The Windows File Explorer, by default, shows the size of a selected file in the status bar (the bar at the bottom of the File Explorer window). However, it does not show the size of a selected folder.

Another way to know the size of files in Windows 10/11
Step 1: Open the File Explorer. Change the File Explorer view to Details. You can use Ctrl + Shift + 6 hotkey or click on the four lines icon at the status bar (refer to the picture below) to switch to the Details view.
Step 2: Now, the File Explorer should show a column called Size. The size column displays the size of all files.
If the Size column is missing, right-click on the Name column and then select the Size option.
