Windows 10 allows you protect your account with a password. If you have set a password for your account or using a Microsoft account without configuring the automatic login, Windows 10 prompts for password whenever you turn on, restart, resume from hibernation, and wake up your computer from sleep mode.

Unless you have turned on the automatic login feature, Windows 10 asks you enter the password or use any other available sign-in methods such as fingerprint, PIN or picture password to unlock the computer.

If your Windows 10 PC is not asking for password when you wake it up from the sleep mode or if you want to stop Windows 10 from asking for password upon waking up from sleep mode, you can enable/disable require password after waking up from sleep mode option.

In the initial version of Windows 10 (10240) and earlier versions of Windows, we could make Windows 10 require or not require password after waking up from sleep in Control Panel. However, in the latest version of Windows 10, the Require a password on wakeup option has been moved from the Power Options window of Control Panel to the new Settings app.

Ensuring that Windows 10 asks for password after resuming from sleep mode is important as it prevents unauthorized access to your PC and data. So, we recommend you make Windows 10 require a password on wakeup from sleep.

In this guide, we will see how to turn on or off require password after sleep mode in Windows 10.
